South African soprano Pretty Yende was born in the small town of Piet Retief and has risen to the top of the opera world at an unprecedented speed. With her magnetic charm, her internationally acclaimed opera and solo performances, and a critically acclaimed discography, she has quickly become one of the brightest stars in the classical music world.

Since her professional opera debut at the Latvian National Theatre in Riga as Micaela in Carmen, she has appeared at almost all of the world's major theatres, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Opéra National de Paris, the Metropolitan Opera, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Zurich Opera House and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Vienna State Opera and many major concert venues.
